Halter Breaking to Under Saddle
The Foundation
The Spur Ranch horse herd consists of broodmares, some out of the Legacy Froelich bloodlines, and sires Carlos Cartel and Buster aka “Rooster Smoke and Spur.” Foals are gently handled from birth in the company of their mothers to ensure a calm temperament. Halter breaking begins at weaning, introducing ground manners and basic movements.
Two-year-olds progress through a sequential training program, learning to move their hinds and front ends, lateral flexion, and wearing tack. Horses with a foundation are typically three years or older, with 60 days of training ground/under saddle, ready to perform basic commands reliably in and out of the arena.
