Vaquero horsemanship traditions and "True Horsemanship through Feel" methods

Spur Ranch provides handling and training on yearlings and two-year olds before they are sold to new owners. Our methods, derived from Vaquero traditions and “True Horsemanship through Feel,” teach communication through understanding touch and pressure. While gentle, these techniques establish firm boundaries to ensure safe handling and riding for both horse and human.

All training prospects are introduced to working cattle, roping, dogs, varied terrain and all-weather conditions.

Horses are trained year-round outside of the arena to prepare them for everything they will encounter as trail, roping, or performance horses. We establish foundational and advanced skills that require ongoing training to maintain.
